Samsung Electronics announced the Samsung NC215S, the world's first solar-powered netbook model, for the Russian market.

Two hours of charging in the sun provides a netbook NC215S with the energy to run for an hour. Battery charging time depends on the intensity of solar radiation. In conjunction with the overall battery life of 14.5 hours, based on test results from BatteryMark, will vary. Depending on configuration and a powerful processor, the Intel Atom, the Samsung NC215S has many possibilities.

Maximum performance with minimum emissions of carbon-dioxide (CO2) is the main idea embodied in the NC215S. The netbook is equipped with a solar panel mounted in the front panel for the automatic charging in the sunlight. This method of charging helps to reduce carbon emissions. Samsung PowerPlus battery technology has an extended battery life. The PowerPlus battery is designed for 1000 charge cycles over a three-year period.

NC215S was awarded a certificate for ergonomic design and the requirements of environmental protection. The netbook uses very low power and is made of materials that are easily recyclable. NC215S provides a high-quality picture and low noise.

With technology Samsung Fast Start, the user can start working after a few seconds after the lid is opened or the power button is pressed. The innovative hybrid sleep mode combines the fast start out of sleep with the stability of hibernation; you no longer need to wait 30-60 seconds for the computer to boot. Dual-core Intel Atom processor, combined with the graphics chip, the Intel GMA 3510 provides a fast and reliable notebook.

With the USB port Sleep-and-Charge can charge portable devices such as smartphones or MP3 players, even if the computer is in sleep mode or turned off. If the battery is discharged, charging devices are available using solar energy. Display Samsung SuperBright with anti-reflective coating provides colorful and clear images in any situation, even in direct light. The screen brightness is 300 nits (a measurement of luminescence) NC215S, which is 50% brighter than competing notebooks.

A comfortable keyboard with isolated island keys provides maximum comfort while typing. Here, testing showed that the optimised distance between keys makes it possible to reduce the number of typos. In addition, this keyboard is more hygienic because the dirt does not fall into the gap between the keys. The Samsung NC215S weighs 1.3 kilograms (~2.9 pounds) and has a robust DuraCase housing with a special coating that protects the notebook from everyday wear and scratches.

In the Russian market the netbook Samsung NC215S will be available in early August 2011 for an estimated retail price of 13,999 (RUB), which is ~$500 (USD).
