The World Bank has approved loans of $297 million for a solar plant in Morocco.
The loan will help finance the first phase of the 500MW Ouarzazate concentrated solar power (CSP) plant, which is the first to be built under the Moroccan $9 billion solar power program, which was launched in 2009 and aims to produce 2000MW of solar electricity by 2020. The plan calls for export of solar electricity to markets in Europe.
