Registration opens Monday, 26 December for the 38th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (PVSC), a global gathering of PV scientists and engineers, to be held 3-8 June, 2012 in Austin, Texas.
The longest-running PV event in the world, the IEEE Photovoltaics Specialists Conference draws photovoltaic scientists and engineers to discuss the latest findings in all aspects of PV technology, from research and development to system application. Beginning in 1961, the PVSC has solidified itself as the premier technical forum for key photovoltaic industry stakeholders.
The 38th PVSC will kick off on 3 June, 2012, with Austin Solar Day. Open to the public and free of charge, Austin Solar Day will leverage the unparalleled expertise available during the PVSC to raise public awareness of solar and its potential impact. Throughout the day, community members can take part in educational sessions led by industry experts to learn more about the advantages of solar energy. Additionally, the public is invited to meet with local system installers to learn more about how they can implement solar PV systems on their own homes and businesses. Solar Day will also showcase projects from the world’s longest-running high school PV science fair. In 2012, the regional winner will benefit from proceeds of Austin Solar Day events, including the Solar Energy for Bright Minds golf classic at the Lost Creek Country Club.
The remainder of the event will focus on the PVSC’s renowned technical program, which encompasses 10 technical areas:

The program committee is currently accepting technical submissions for presentation during the conference. Prospective authors are invited to submit technical abstracts by the deadline of 5 February, 2012. The highest-caliber papers will be considered for inclusion in the peer-reviewed IEEE Journal of Photovoltaics, offering authors a unique opportunity to present and archive their efforts.
The formal call for papers can be viewed here. Nominations are also open for the prestigious William R. Cherry Award, presented to an individual engineer or scientist who has made significant strides to further the science and technology of photovoltaics during his or her career. The 2011 recipient of the Cherry Award was Dr. Jerry M. Olson, a Principal Scientist with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) whose work on single and multi-junction solar cells has been implemented on both space and terrestrial photovoltaic systems.
