A report by analysts at the Brattle Group energy consultancy, provides analysis as to how much electricity prices for Texas (US) consumers would be reduced by adding solar capacity to the Texas electricity market.
The report shows the total potential cost savings for electricity customers through reduced prices from additional electricity generation, lower fuel costs from using solar instead of additional fossil fuel electricity generation, and the lower costs for operation and maintenance that come with solar energy. The report was funded by the Energy Foundation and the Solar Energy Industries Association.
According to an analysis released May 30 by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation, Texas electricity reserves will challenge operations this summer because resource adequacy levels have fallen below targets. The analysis also stated that if Texas experiences extreme and prolonged high temperatures, rotating outages are possible this summer.
