The CPV plant was idled in May of this year, after the company had begun layoffs. At the end of last year the company’s CEO and visionary, Brian Robertson, was killed in a plane crash. Layoffs at the company began a month later after investors pulled back after the leader’s death.

The Las Vegas manufacturing operation was a joint venture with Singapore’s Flextronics Industrial.

Founded in 1989, Amonix is headquartred in Seal Beach, California (US) with another facility in Torrance, California.  Amonix was selected for a government grant in 2007 from the Department of Energy under the George W. Bush administration, eventually receiving $15.6 million.
