Bosch Buys Voltwerk Electronics, Expands Inverter Business

Bosch today announced it has acquired voltwerk electronics, an inverter supplier. Voltwerk electronics will become part of Bosch Power Tec by the end of 2012. The Bosch subsidiary, founded in early 2011 to move the company’s inverter business forward, is based in Böblingen, Germany.
Fraunhofer ISE Debuts Hydrogen Filling Station

Solar and water will power cars that fill up at Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems’ first solar hydrogen filling station.
Using electricity generated from solar or wind power, hydrogen is produced by means of electrolysis. Once tanked with hydrogen in a fueling time of about three minutes, fuel cell cars can travel a distance of more than 400 km.

BMW Adds Solar to Alternative Energy Portfolio

BMW today announced it has completed the installation and commissioning of solar panels that are providing energy to fully power the 24,000-square-foot Zentrum Museum, the plant’s heritage museum and visitors’ center in Greenville, South Carolina. In addition to the new solar panels, the plant also installed three new electric vehicle charging stations throughout the main facility.
US VC Investment in Cleantech Reaches $4.9 Billion

US venture capital (VC) investment in cleantech companies reached $4.9 billion in 2011, flat in terms of deals and down 4.5% in terms of capital invested compared to 2010, according to an Ernst & Young analysis based on data from Dow Jones VentureSource. However, this represents a 29% increase from the $3.8 billion raised in 2009. In Q4 2011 VC investment in cleantech reached $940.5 million with 70 rounds of financing.
