PV Inverter Buyers Eye Energy Storage as Number One Need

06 March 2013
POSTED IN Applications News

Batteries_rechargeable_200x154A new survey conducted by IMS Research of more than 400 global photovoltaic (PV) inverter customers has revealed a rapidly growing need for energy storage in PV systems. Despite the infancy of the energy storage market, nearly one third of respondents indicated that they expect to be using energy storage in over 40% of the PV systems they install by 2015. The recent survey of global installers, system integrators and wholesalers also revealed that Chinese PV inverters are gaining acceptance and that the high price of microinverters is the main barrier to them gaining share.

Solar Solution: Plastic replaces metal

Goldbeck commercial PV mounting system with Ultramid plastic componentsUntil now, substructures for PV mounting systems on flat roofs were generally made of steel and aluminum. As a project developer mainly for large PV flat roof installations, German Goldbeck Solar has had much experience with various mounting systems on the market and found that none of the systems available entirely met their requirements. For example, some substructures with a sufficient current carrying capacity do not ensure proper water drainage and vice versa. Other substructures do not have built-in cable ducts or come with a dozen small parts and different screw types.

Roofing Colour for Energy Efficiency

18 December 2012
POSTED IN Editors Blogs

White-gable.gifThe colour of a roof can affect its energy efficiency, according to a recent study by Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, which claims that painting roofs white is as environmentally friendly as taking cars off the roads for half a century. The scientists found that the simplest way of engineering an environment that can cope with global warming is to increase the reflectivity of the roof, so more of the incoming sunlight is directed back into space. (Results of the study were published in Environmental Research Letters.)
