The SGI 500XT, part of the SMARTGRID Inverter line of products, is designed to incorporate utility features that enhance power control, communication protocols, and grid safety. The SGI 500XT is an external transformer, utility-scale, central inverter optimized for direct-to-medium voltage coupling, with a market leading 98% CEC efficiency rating.

SkyFire Energy, a solar contractor based in Western Canada, is pleased to announce that they are expanding on their ability to harness Alberta’s world-class solar resource by merging with DayStar Renewable Energy from Edmonton. The two companies will operate together as SkyFire Energy. A second SkyFire Energy office has recently opened in Edmonton, joining the company’s head office in Calgary. The new office will be installing more than 200 kW of photovoltaic solar power during its first quarter of operation.

Roofing Colour for Energy Efficiency

The colour of a roof can affect its energy efficiency, according to a recent study by Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, which claims that painting roofs white is as environmentally friendly as taking cars off the roads for half a century. The scientists found that the simplest way of engineering an environment that can cope with global warming is to increase the reflectivity of the roof, so more of the incoming sunlight is directed back into space. (Results of the study were published in Environmental Research Letters.)
