Ascent Solar Announces Design Competition Winners

Boston University students who won Ascent Solar's Innovative Design CompetitionAscent Solar Technologies, a developer of lightweight flexible thin-film photovoltaic modules, today announced the winners of its company-sponsored Innovative Design Competition. The winning team of students from Boston University, whose team developed a portable solar powered water purification system, won first place as well as the grand prize of US $10,000 and a visit to Ascent’s world headquarters and manufacturing facility in Colorado.

Barr today received the prestigious $30,000 Lemelson-MIT Student Prize for his innovative solar technologies and creativity. Barr received his Ph.D. from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2012 and a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering Practice in 2008. Barr is honored alongside the 2012 $30,000 Lemelson-MIT Collegiate Student Prize winners from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

US DOE Launches Solar Training
