Solar thermal Installation at Santa Clara University's Benson Memorial CenterSanta Clara University (SCU), located 50 miles south of San Francisco in California’s Silicon Valley, has a mandate to be carbon neutral by the end of 2015. With the deadline a little more than four years away, Joe Sugg, Assistant Vice President of University Operations at SCU said they’re well on their way, with 1MW of solar PV already installed on campus and a smart microgrid project currently underway. Tanzania_250dpiTanzania is one of the world's poorest countries based on per capital income. And it is energy poor, with electrification rates of only 14% nationally, falling to 2% in rural regions. Electricity demand, however, is growing between 8.5% to 15% annually. The Government of Tanzania is working to implement TEDAP (Tanzania Energy Development and Access Project) in partnership with the World Bank to improve availability of power supply, but much work is needed.
