Southern California Edison (SCE) today announced that a solar power plant it has constructed on top of a 436,000-square-foot facility in Rialto, Calif. owned by an affiliate of AMB Property Corporation is now online and providing clean generation to Inland Empire customers, providing jobs to 500 workers and training through and apprentice program.

The University of Delaware (UD) knows solar. The university is home to the Institute for Energy Conversion, which conducts research and development of thin film photovoltaic solar cells. In 2007 UD researchers led a consortium that achieved a record-breaking combined solar cell efficiency of 42.8%. In 2008 the school received a $3.75 million grant under the Solar America Initiative. The graduating class of 2009 left the school a gift of $100,000 to help fund solar projects on campus, and today that gift is being realized with the largest rooftop solar installation in the state.

Cornell gets $80 Million Gift for Sustainability Research

Cornell University in Ithaca, New York have created the David R. Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future with an $80 million gift from alumnus David R. Atkinson ‘60 and his wife Patricia Atkinson.
The gift turns a three-year-old pilot program they funded into a permanent, major research center focusing on challenges in the global energy, environmental and economic development arenas. According to the university, this is the largest gift ever given by an individual to its Ithaca campus and the largest gift to a university for sustainability research and faculty support.
