SunEdison, a leading global solar energy services provider and subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc., has signed an agreement with Petrobras to build one of the largest solar photovoltaic power plants in Brazil. The plant will be located in Alto do Rodrigues, Rio Grande do Norte. Once completed, the SunEdison Renewable Operations Center will manage the ongoing operations of the plant. The energy generated will be destined to the National Interconnected System (SIN).

Solar Decathlon China 2013: First Solar Donates Solar to IMUT Team

First Solar, Inc. announced today that a team of students from Inner Mongolia University of Technology (IMUT) will use the Company's advanced thin-film solar photovoltaic (PV) modules to power its house in the 2013 Solar Decathlon China competition. First Solar donated 150 of its PV modules with a peak generating capacity of 13 kilowatts (KW) to IMUT's "Team Green Sun" and will provide technical support for the project team, as well as collaborating with IMUT on solar education. This is the third time First Solar has supported the Solar Decathlon competitions.

Solon Completes Arizona Multi-Campus Solar System

Solon Corporation has completed construction of 1.15MW of solar systems for the Tanque Verde Unified School District (TVUSD) in Tucson, Arizona (US).
Spread over four campuses (Tanque Verde Elementary School, Aqua Caliente Elementary School, Emily Gray Junior High School and Tanque Verde High School), the solar systems are a combination of shade structures and rooftop systems. With more than 4,000 solar modules, the systems will offset a large portion of the daytime electricity requirements of each campus.

Silicon Solar Solutions, a Genesis Technology Incubator client at the University of Arkansas (US), has developed a new technology that could improve the efficiency of solar cells by 15%, potentially saving manufacturers millions of dollars in production costs.
The start-up company at the Arkansas Research and Technology Park has submitted an application for a full patent on a self-aligned hydrogenated selective emitter for N-type solar cells, moving the patent from “provisional” to “pending,” said Douglas Hutchings (pictured left), chief executive officer of Silicon Solar Solutions.
