AES Solar Closes on €77M Project Financing For Italian 27MW PV Portfolio

AES Solar announced today that it closed on €77 million of long-term non-recourse financing for Elpida, a portfolio of 10 solar PV power plants totaling 27MW, located in the Lazio and Sicily regions of Italy. The financing facility closed in May and was used to refinance the equity advanced during construction of the Elpida project.
US DoC Discovers Additional Chinese Solar Subsidies

According to the Coalition for American Solar Manufacturing (CASM), the US Department of Commerce (DoC) today announced that it has found additional subsidies benefitting Chinese producers of solar cells and modules. As a result, the new countervailing duty rates would increase from 2.9% to 3.44% on Wuxi Suntech and from 4.73% to 5.81% on Trina Solar. The rate for all other Chinese solar companies would also increase, since the "all-others" rate is a weighted average of the Trina and Suntech rates.
Lux: HCPV market will reach $1.6 billion in 2017

High-concentrating photovoltaics (HCPV), a technology to tap more of the sun’s energy than other solar methods, will see a 31% compound annual growth rate until 2017, according to a Lux Research report.
Driven by emerging markets with high solar resources, the market for HCPV will grow to 697MW in 2017, creating a system market worth US $1.6 billion and a module market worth US $700 million, reaching a system price of US $2.33/W, the report forecasts.
Crystalline PV Module Profits Fall to Single Digits

Average gross profits of crystalline photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturers fell to just $0.09 (USD) per watt (/W) in the first quarter of 2012, putting huge pressure on suppliers according to the "PV Modules, Cells, Wafers & Polysilicon - Supply & Demand Quarterly" report for the second quarter of 2012," from IMS Research, which was recently acquired by IHS Inc. As a result of continued price pressure and highly competitive market conditions throughout the PV industry, gross profits are forecast to continue to fall further to only $0.07/W by the end of 2012.
