Brazil’s Regulations Indicate Smart Grid Market PotentialNortheast Group today released a second volume of its earlier study Brazil Smart Grid: Market Forecast (2012-2022) that analyzes the market impacts of the new regulations Brazil’s electricity regulator ANEEL announced in August 2012, regarding the deployment of smart meters throughout the country.

The new regulations were not the market catalyst, in the form of a binding mandate, many were anticipating, but nonetheless still provide for a very significant smart grid market to materialize in the country over the next decade, the report says.

Suntech's new 300W Solar Module for AmericasSuntech Power Holdings today announced it is now offering a 300W solar module for commercial and utility-scale solar projects in North and South America.

The new Ve-Series module, with 72 multicrystalline cells and 15.5% module efficiency, comes with an improved frame design as well as a 1000 volt (V) operational certification according to standards outlined by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), the leading U.S.-based independent product safety certification organization.

Since the Brazilian Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica (ANEEL; also known as the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency) released new legislation regarding solar power in April 2012, there has been an explosion of interest in the Brazilian solar market. The Empresa de Pesquisa Energetica (EPE) is the research arm of the Ministry of Mines and Energy in Brazil. In the EPE's comprehensive 60-page report, released just weeks ago, they cover everything from Brazil's solar resources and existing incentives to the potential industrial value chain and the competitiveness of both distributed and centralised generation. The report was commissioned to instruct the Ministry of Mines and Energy in their decision-making processes for solar policy.

Zytech Solar Power for 3000 Homes in Peru

Solar cell manufacturer Isofoton has received an 8.4M€ loan from the Andalusian Government, which adds to its 40M€ investment by Samsung.

The company says the loan will help Isofoton achieve 20% solar efficiency and attain an annual production capacity of 300MW, a three-fold increase compared to two years ago.
