Spain: 1.2MW solar plants for water company, sports facilities and schools

In Spain, 9 public facilities, including some schools, sports facilities, a water company and government buildings are going solar. In the future, more than 5000 solar modules installed on the roofs of these buildings, which Conergy supplied to its partner and general contractor Gamma Solutions, will deliver a total of 1.8 million kilowatt hours of clean solar power a year, sufficient to supply over 500 Spanish households.

Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 is currently underway in Madrid, Spain with 19 teams from 12 different countries competing in this bi-annual event. The event is modelled after the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, which began in 2002 in Washington, DC. Decathletes travelled to Madrid earlier this month to set up their sustainable solar homes at Villa Solar and compete to in ten juried events, such as level of innovation and energy balance, with prizes given to the three teams with the most points in each category. At the end of the contest, the team with the most overall points will be the final winner.

Solar tracking controllers supplier P4Q USA today announced it is locating its North American headquarters and production facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico (US).
